MASTERING THE BOUCHES DU RHÔNE
VOCAL ARTS CENTER
A PROFESSIONAL ARTISTIC TRAINING STRUCTURE

Under the impetus of Samuel Coquard, its director appointed in 2002, the Maîtrise des Bouches-du-Rhône is being transformed into a real pole of high-level professional vocal art composed of an original vocal device divided into a preparatory choir, a probationary choir, a master choir and a young choir created in 2003, bringing together a total of 90 children. In 2004, the Asmarã chamber choir was created, made up of professional adult singers who would thus open up the repertoire to polyphony in a mixed choir. The Masters, today anchored in the professional landscape, is in great demand to participate in different musical and artistic forms of very high level productions. The Maîtrise takes part in the lyrical productions of the Opéras de Marseille ( Louise by Charpentier, La Bohème by Puccini, Carmen by Bizet, Die Zauberflöte by Mozart, Tosca and Turandot by Puccini), in Avignon in Mozart's Requiem, in Vichy in Die Zauberflöte, at the Chorégies d'Orange ( Carmen under the direction of Maestro Chung, La Bohème with Roberto Alagna and Angela Georghiu, Carmina Burana under the direction of Michel Plasson, Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Orchester National de France under the direction of Kurt Masur )... The Maîtrise is also invited by the biggest French and international music festivals and scenes such as: Festival d'art lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence, Conques, Rocamadour, Roquevaire, Montpellier, La Chaise-Dieu, Le Grand Théâtre de Provence, International Festival of Children's Choirs in Vendée... The Maîtrise is a specialized, public training structure, which receives aid from the local authorities of the City of Marseille, the Ré gion PACA, of the Ministry of Culture, and has as its main partner the faithful support of the Departmental Council of Bouches-du-Rhône.

The Maîtrise recorded in 2007 under the Solstice label, a first disc devoted to the sacred vocal work of Jean Langlais, rewarded with 5 Diapasons and 4 Stars at the World of Music and in 2009 a second disc on Rachmaninov, Rheinberger and Dvorak for choir and piano with Magali Frandon. In 2012, under its own label Parsiphonie, the Maîtrise recorded a romantic disc with Lieder und Gesänge by Gustav Mahler and Duetti opus 39 by Mendelssohn. 2013, the Maîtrise cut a Christmas repertoire on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Britten with the famous Ceremony of Carols for choir and harp.

In 2014, the Maîtrise took part in the productions of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Otello by Verdi at the Chorégies d'Orange. We also find the Maîtrise for the opening of the Marseille Opera season in La Gioconda and in 2015 in Tosca. In 2016, the Maîtrise sang Mahler's 7th Symphony with the Budapest Festival Orchestra during the Easter Festival at the Grand Théâtre de Provence under the direction of Maestro Ivan Fischer and participated in the 5th edition of Musiques en Fête at the Chorégies d'Orange, a cultural program broadcast on France 3.
