PRE-MASTERY
HOW TO ENTER AND WHY?
“Singing is natural and accessible to everyone! The voice is a real instrument that everyone can discover simply, through various exercises that involve the whole body”.
Access is given to all children aged 6 to 11 (from CE1 to CM2) enrolled in the partner school in the 13th arrondissement of Marseille: the ZAC-Athéna school. This cycle can last 4 years, it prepares and trains the children in a class course in flexible working hours (CHAM). A continuity of training exists so that the child can continue his training course in CHAM at the College if he wishes and if he passes the entrance examination.
WHAT ARE THE QUALITIES REQUIRED TO INTEGRATE THE TRAINING?
The entry of children to the Mastery is done after musical and vocal tests allowing to distinguish certain qualities such as timbre, rhythmic sense, ability to recognize and reproduce a melodic motif of binary or ternary division. An interview in the presence of the parents and the child is carried out, at the end of the technical tests, allowing a better understanding of the child's personality and his motivation, the main element for entry into the Master's degree.
WHAT DOES MY CHILD'S MASTERY TRAINING TIME REPRESENT?
In CE1 and CE2, the training time is 5 hours per week in two sessions over two mornings during school time.
Artistic education is provided by the Masters who guarantee these specific lessons
They understand :
2 hours of musical and theoretical training in small level groups
2 hours of Choral Singing – CHORUS in level choir
1 hour of body and movement expression on stage
THE CONDUCT AND SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN IS PERFORMED BY WHO?
It is under the joint responsibility of the partner structures:
Artistic Structure: Mastery of Bouches-du-Rhône
General education structure: ZAC-Athéna public school, Ministry of National Education, supervised by a team of teachers in charge of classes with flexible hours, under the direction of the school director, an educational adviser and a first degree national education inspector. The routing and transport of children between structures is supported by the partner school.

PROCEDURE AND DURATION OF TRAINING SESSIONS
Practiced methods
The Maîtrise proposes to give children a high-level musical training, essentially through the practice of choral singing, which allows them to flourish thanks to the pleasure of music. The Masters practices so-called active methods in order to develop the most refined sensory listening possible in children and to encourage their artistic flair. The Mastery emphasizes the notions of practice and listening through active learning based on the principles of Willems, Martenot, Alexander and Dalcroze.
What is a WORKSHOP?
The children take part in the musical auditions of the "Mondays of Malraux" which are scheduled in the auditorium of the Malraux college in the presence of parents, teachers and college staff. These educational meetings take place periodically, every Monday before departures during school holidays at 5:30 p.m. The Workshop is a session showing a work completed or in progress in front of an audience.
Do children sing in concert? Are they assessed?
The children take part in the shows and concerts according to the works on the programme, their age and their level in the process of being acquired. A musical and artistic assessment is made during a public performance at the end of the year. Pre-Masters children are also evaluated quarterly by the entire teaching team, with a detailed analysis of the results during the child's acquisition taking the form of a detailed quarterly report. This report is sent to each family and an overall assessment mark is entered on the school report of the partner establishment, which is part of the general school monitoring of the child.
How is the commitment of the child considered?
Once the child has been admitted after an audition, he joins the partner school ZAC-ATHENA and his commitment cannot be interrupted before the end of CM2. To integrate the rest of the college training, the child will have to retake an entrance audition for the higher cycle and join the 6th grade class at the André MALRAUX partner college.
